Hold on to what is good even if it is a handful of earth.
Hold on to what you believe even if it is a tree which stands by itself.
Hold on to what you must do even if it is a long way from here.
Hold on to life even when it is easier letting go.
Hold on to my hand even when I have gone away from you.
~Pueblo blessing

Winter
not much snow this winter, but here is a poem I wrote on one of the cold days this past week, and a picture of a bird in a tree taken a few years ago, plus a red amaryllis for its cheerfulness. warm wishes, Ellen
Sun dogs follow me home,
racing across the sky.
Crows call
from the leafless treetops.
Underground, daffodils burrow
like sleeping moles,
The cat sniffs the air, tests the deck
delicately, with her outstretched paw.
Still winter, stay inside.
I agree... porridge, tea, back to sleep.
Winter -- to hibernate,
or to fly
full speed ahead
through the dazzling cold?
