I recently worked with grade 3 & 4 students at Cootes Paradise School in Hamilton. (Cootes Paradise Marsh is the largest wetland at the western end of Lake Ontario, on the west side of Hamilton Harbour. It is now a wildlife sanctuary, home to plants, birds, and water & land animals. The original inhabitants, known as Princess Point people, came there between 500-1000 A.D. We still have an area called Princess Point.)
Here is one of the best short poems about spring I've ever heard, written by a pair of students (part of a longer poem):
Birds
Chirping
Words
and here is one of the class poems (written together) about spring, using all the 5 senses plus emotion and movement.
Love, Happy Spring and Happy Mother's Day,
Ellen
The movement of walking freely, butterflies flying free,
and animals coming out of their hibernation.
Lovely Ellen! Thanks for posting.

ReplyDeletehave been away and catching up.
so interesting... princess point people... the poems really came alive today. What a glorious Spring day.
Happy Mother's day
5 senses + is an idea I am going to steal with your permission.
